Hong Kong will stop shipping small packages to the U.S. after Trump drops ‘de minimis’ exemption that let Shein and Temu sell to Americans

Hong Kong’s publish workplace will cease delivery small parcels to the US after Washington introduced plans to cost tariffs on small-value parcels from the southern Chinese language metropolis, the federal government stated Wednesday.

The U.S. authorities earlier introduced that it will finish a customs exception permitting small-value parcels from Hong Kong to enter the U.S. with out tax, slapping a 120% tariff on them ranging from Could 2. The “de minimis” exemption at the moment permits shipments which are value lower than $800 to go tax-free.

A authorities assertion stated Hongkong Submit wouldn’t acquire tariffs on behalf of Washington, and can droop accepting non-airmail parcels containing items destined for the U.S. on Wednesday, since gadgets shipped by sea take extra time. It’s going to settle for airmail parcels till Apr. 27.

“For sending gadgets to the US, the general public in Hong Kong needs to be ready to pay exorbitant and unreasonable charges as a result of U.S.’s unreasonable and bullying acts,” the federal government wrote.
